The Sound of Falling: When Design and Narrative Elegance come Together in a Short

Chen-Yu Lin’s last short The Sound of Falling won the Festivals Connection Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Award (Lab Competition) at the Clermont-Ferrand ISFF 2019.
The Sound of the Falling was released on February 2, 2019, at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and it is a drama, a 13 minutes-short film describing the fading of life and loss of freedom.
The protagonist is an orchard keeper, and the whole film goes around him and his life. The language is Chinese with English subtitles, and the filming location is the city of Taipei, Taiwan.
The short film is the result of Chien-Yu Lin’s genius, in collaboration with Jia Ching Ju and the London Film School for its production.
Chen-Yu Lin is a Taiwan born and Colombian based visual artist-filmmaker: thanks to her talent, The Sound of Falling had a significant resonance at the 41stedition of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, which took place on February 1-9, 2019.
The French Film Festival is one of the most important cinema events in Europe. The festival is, in fact, in partnership with the most prominent international film festivals, and an excellent launchpad to discover brilliant new filmmakers.
As for Chen-Yu Lin’s biography, before studying at the London Film School she was a fashion designer. She was also a curious researcher of multiple combination of short film productions and coproduction between Taiwan and London.
Currently, she continues to write and direct, while improving her skills as production designer.
