Marlon Modolo Zanotelli Takes the Lead

On the first day of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome, Marlon Modolo Zanotelli made an impressive start by winning the CSI5* 1.45m speed class with his 10-year-old horse, Zy-Zento. Zanotelli posted an unbeatable time of 55.28 seconds, demonstrating precision and speed that left his competitors trailing. Reflecting on his victory, Zanotelli praised his horse, saying, “He is an amazing horse. He is so careful, and he is the type of ride I love to have.” He also expressed his admiration for the venue, calling the Circus Maximus “just amazing,” and noting his love for competing in Rome.

France’s Gregory Cottard, riding Gammelgaards Carola, came close to Zanotelli’s time, finishing in 55.85 seconds to claim second place. Fellow French rider Edward Levy secured third place with Lyon van de Plataan, clocking in at 56.59 seconds. Italian rider Giacomo Casadei thrilled the home crowd with a strong performance, finishing fourth on Corradiena van’t Klein Asdonkz, the best result for Italy on the day.

Top Riders Play It Safe

While Zanotelli and others pushed for early victories, some of the sport’s top riders opted to conserve their energy for the upcoming days of competition. Notable names like Christian Kukuk, Christian Ahlmann, and John Whitaker decided to use the opening class as a warm-up, focusing on the challenges ahead. This strategic approach suggests that the best is yet to come as the event progresses.
