Kiss Me Deadly 2019: All Colours Of Noir

 

Kiss Me Deadly is the only Italian international Festival dedicated to the noir genre. It is named after the famous homonymous film by Robert Aldrich. This year its fifth edition will take place from Monday 26 to Saturday 31 August in Campobasso, Molise. The event is conceived and curated by the Cultural Association “Kiss Me Deadly” and produced by Fondazione Molise Cultura, with the patronage of Lucca Comics & Games.

Special Guests

Kiss Me Deadly 2019 will host: the writer Valerio Varesi, author of the crime series Commissioner Soneri; the investigative journalist Fabio Sanvitale, who will present his documentary about Pier Paolo Pasolini, Poesia e Sangue, with a new perspective on the murder of the famous writer and director; Walter Catalano, editor of the Guide To Noir Literature.

The Comics Section

The comics section is curated by Andrea Fornasiero and this year will introduce to the audience Maurizio Lacavalla and his comic book Due attese, an investigation into a man who has disappeared, where time is articulated as if in a dream. Daniele Bigliardo, founder of the Scuola Italiana di Comix, will talk about the stories designed for Dylan Dog and the comic book transpositions of the novels by Maurizio de Giovanni dedicated to Commissioner Ricciardi.

The Movie Section

The opening film is this fifth edition is the Italian preview of the film El Reino (The Realm) by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, an extraordinary political noir, which won the 7. edition of the Goya Awards. This section will also include a second preview of the extraordinary French-Belgian noir A Bluebird In My Head by Jérémie Guez, which has not been released in Italy, yet. Moreover, the audience will enjoy a tribute to Georges Simenon, with two classics inspired by the writer’s novels and restored by the Bologna Film Library.

The Exhibition

Palazzo GIL will host Occhi sul Noir (Eyes On Noir), an exhibition dedicated to the epic posters of cult noir films, curated by the collector and critic Paolo Zelati.

The Photo Story

Kiss Me Deadly presents for the first time the PULPmanzo Project by Manuel Civitillo, in collaboration with the photographer Massimo Di Nonno and Vivian Maier Centre for Photography: during the week of the event, a 1970s noir style photo story will be shot in Campobasso; the print version of the photo story will be distributed in a limited edition on the closing day of the Festival.

All about the 2018 edition of Kiss Me Deadly.

 

Leila Tavi

Leila Tavi is a journalist specialized in Russian Politics and Culture and PhD c. in Russian History at the University of Vienna under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Kappeler. She studied Political Science in Vienna and Rome, graduating in History of Eastern Europe at Roma Tre University, with Prof. Francesco Guida and a thesis on travel reports about Saint Petersburg by West Europeans at the beginning of the XIX Century. Previously she obtained a degree in Foreign Languages, with a specialization in German Philology at the University of Rome «La Sapienza». Her new book "East of the Danube" is coming soon.
